Please reach us at contactus@doctor-jo.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Our workshop series are run solely online and are open to everyone in the UK.
Dr Jo is based in Thame, Oxfordshire and works predominantly with families in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. We will be seeing children for assessments predominantly in spaces embedded in the community, namely the Red Kite Centre and Thomley. For clinical sessions we have a clinic space located in Thame.
Doctor Jo will accept insurance contributions from all major insurers. Please check your policy for details.
We entirely recognise that for some neurodivergent children, being in their own space will be the only way to feasibly engage with assessment or therapeutic sessions. This was part of the motivation for setting up our online membership. Regarding 1:1 sessions, if there is a clinical need, then Dr Jo will try to facilitate home-based sessions.
Yes! Dr Jo is registered with the HCPC. Whilst an active member of her local community, Dr Jo would never disclose who visits the clinic or any details shared in sessions. Should you wish to share your experiences of Dr Jo with others then you are most welcome to.
Regarding your child, Dr Jo outlines that she would not share personal information with parents if the child did not want this. If Dr Jo is concerned about a child's safety she would break this confidentiality. Where possible Dr Jo works with the whole family system so children usually adjust to the idea about thinking about strategies that help the whole family.
Our webinars are public forums. Should you wish for your details to remain private we suggest you turn off your camera and enter a generic screen name.
Dr Jo has experience as a clinical psychologist working with people across the lifespan. She generally accepts referrals for individuals age 4 and over (corresponding to the start of KS1 in the UK). She specialises in working with the neurodivergent community. She does not require a diagnosis for a young person to engage in sessions.
If Dr Jo does not feel she is the best fit for your child or you, then she will let you know. Sometimes, an alternative professional such as a music therapist, art therapist or occupational therapist may meet the needs of a child more appropriately.
Dr Jo also does not do work with families who are known to her own children. She will do her best to recommend alternative support in these cases. As a more informal source of support, workshops and membership are open to all.
At Doctor Jo we genuinely believe that neurodivergence can be a super power. However we also acknowledge that neurodivergent people have higher rates of unemployment, are chronically underemployed and face several challenges. Our business is small but we try:
- To contract out services we need to neurodivergent people.
- To fundraise for, and hire rooms from, local charities who support neurodivergent people.
- To seek feedback from our neurodivergent clients to ensure we are always being as neuro-affirmative and accessible as we possibly can.
Dr Jo recommends Everlief Child Psychology based in West Wycombe. Everlief provide a subscription-based parenting club which runs online sessions, along with one-to-one psychological sessions. You can visit their website: everlief.co.uk. They also run a free blog theyarethefuture.co.uk which offers fantastic resources.
We would also recommend their services if you are seeking an educational psychology assessment.
Whilst Doctor Jo is qualified in assessment and diagnosis of both autism and ADHD, at the moment we are concentrating on providing therapeutic support as we see this as the greatest gap in services.
Doctor Jo provides consultation to Autism Services Group and would highly recommend this service if you are seeking an assessment. www.autismservices.group
