Always reviewed by Dr Jo, these introductory questionnaires will provide feedback as to whether we think there is a clinical likelihood of ADHD. This includes Conners screening questionnaires which will be sent to you, school and if over 8 years old, to your child at this stage for completion along with a specially developed questionnaire which we use for all children we assess.
If we don't think your child will meet criteria, we won't move forward and you will only pay for this. We charge a £250 fee for the cost of questionnaires and our clinical time and write a summary of needs if we DON'T think ADHD is indicated.
Conducted in clinic or online, this 1-2 hour appointment will investigate your child's presentation and developmental history.
We'll be asking lots of questions about both your child in the present and also what they were like as a young child.
We conduct a parent-DIVA, a validated questionnaire which helps to understand more about your child's behaviour and whether it aligns with ADHD.
Conducted in clinic, we will meet your child observing their behaviour in several different tasks. Where the child is able, we will ask them questions related to their own experience of difficulties with attention and hyperactivity using a validated questionnaire, the young-DIVA.
We aim for this to be a fun experience, where your child gets to be themselves, and talk about anything they might be struggling with.
One of the main benefits of having a clinical psychologist involved in assessment is the opportunity to have your child's learning profile mapped out using a validated assessment the Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V). We don't insist on these as they are not insisted upon by NICE guidance for ADHD assessment but they provide invaluable insights into how your child learns and help to tailor educational recommendations.
Any professional who has been involved in your child's assessment process will be consulted. All information is combined to decide:
1. Whether your child meets criteria for a diagnosis of ADHD
2. Your child's specific profile and how this impacts their strengths and challenges
3. To put together meaningful recommendations to help your child meet their potential.
We write up a comprehensive report that comes in four clear, accessible sections:
1. A front sheet which you can provide to anyone as evidence of the outcome of the assessment.
2. A detailed section on your child's profile and clear, personalised recommendations on how best to help.
3. A detailed summary of the NICE-approved assessment process we have conducted
4. A letter to your child explaining the outcome of their assessment.
Dr Jo provides you with full feedback on the assessment and our recommendations.
You have the chance to ask any questions. Your child is welcome to attend if you think they are ready and will benefit, or you are welcome to attend alone.
Any amendments are made to your report to make it something meaningful to stay with your child throughout their life.
If your child does meet diagnostic criteria for ADHD then you know you'll be able to access low cost post-diagnostic support from a familiar face through the Doctor Jo parenting membership. Explore at your own pace and know there's space to ask Doctor Jo questions and meet other parents going through the same process.
We provide 2 months access to this included in your assessment price.
